Those of you who were lucky enough to see Barry and Holly Tashian at our house party back in 2008 will probably remember seeing their tall, red-headed bass player, Ross Sermons. Ross is a terrific bass player who has played with a host of well-known bands, ranging from Barry and Holly, to the Carter Brothers Band (an alt-country band just recently signed with the prestigous Compass Records in Nashville) and the great Jimmy Buffett. He has also recorded and toured with artists Tim O’Brien, Mike Marshall, Darol Anger, Alison Brown and fiddle legend Vassar Clements. But it turns out that Ross is also an ultra-talented songwriter and bluesy singer who plays both fingerstyle and bottleneck slide guitars. His new recording, King's Pool Room (get it here) is a marvelous showcase of his many talents. Ross is steeped in the tradition of great Southern music. As Barry Tashian says, "Musicians do not come more rock-solid than Ross Sermons. His Southern Roots run deep into the music of America." We hope you can join us for an evening of music with this great player on one of his rare trips up through the northeast. We'll have the A/C cranked up and plenty of hospitality to go around to welcome Ross back to our place for another round of exciting new music. |
